Description: - It is set in rural setting near cantonment area of Yol, the Sukoon reflects the idea of modernity blended smoothly with the vernacular setting. It’s a four-bedroom house constructed on three levels. Due to the topography of the site, the structure is planned in steps and the second level has the maximum ground coverage.

The geographical setting & the orientation of the plot allows the house facing southward with Dhauladhar Mountains in the backdrop. The planning is climate responsive with special attention paid to ensure that every space of the house receive sunlight. The large windows toward south side allows One to enjoy the south sun panoramic view of the Kangra Valley. Another detail which responds to the climate is the large overhangs which protects the spaces from heavy downpours of the monsoon season which has a tremendous impact in the part of this region.

The village where the site is located is called slate Godam. It was known for its supply for Slates & Natural stones during earlier times. All the houses in this region were constructed from dry masonry walls of slate stone. Today the availability is scarce but still conscious efforts has been put to replicate the dry-stone masonry walls using slate stone with conventional bricks in composite masonry walls. Majority of stone used was found in the site itself while some of it was sourced from the nearby stone quarry.

The house reflects the philosophy of the firm where we make a conscious effort on making the design climate and site contextually response with respect to the architecture of the mountains. The fusion of modern standard with vernacular material & design principles makes it a perfect adobe for anyone aspiring to live a mountain life in today’s world.
